Play drums, feel better.
There’s a psychosomatic thing that happens when you move your body… you align your mind body and heart.
It's not about avoiding stress, It’s about regulating your stress + anxiety.
Life happens, you get emotionally activated, holding onto anxiety, and it’s helpful to have something that can help you navigating your nervous system state.
In my experience, I’ve faced an "OCD" pattern in my brain that comes from feeling a lack of control, and to get out of that trap, I have to do something disruptive and make a different choice than go down that thought pattern. Relaxing into the parasympathetic side of my NS… it’s a way to let go.
Short Story…
Looking back to when I was a teen and there was a lot of emotional chaotic weather going on at home. I could sit down play drums, sometimes for hours, but even just 20-30 min would reset, realign, and drop me into some of the parasympathetic side of my Nervous System when I was in "fight/flight".
The cool thing is… different rhythm patterns, tempos, and drum tones, can actually get you out of that stress response, focus and find clarity.
It also supports a bunch of "disorders" like calming ticks if you have tourrettes, focusing if you have ADHD, releasing intrusive PTSD thoughts, and relieve OCD because the power of being present with the drum.
Drumming puts your brain in a meditative brain wave state… and the good news is you don't have to be a hippy to do it.
It just takes approaching drums like yoga… Stretching your capacity one step at a time.
